Rye Wouldn't I?

A session beer and my first all-grain batch. Just a hint of rye to give it a bit of spice and keep it summery.

In spite of many mishaps (drill battery died while grinding grain, MLT leaked while preheating, I under-prepared on the amount of water for the sparge, burner failed to work so I had to use the kitchen stove to boil), I hit 1.043 OG for my first all-grain batch! I used a few scoops of Nottingham yeast from a previous fermentation, pitched at 83 degrees, and within 5 hours, it was bubbling away furiously in my conical fermenter. We'll see how the esters work out on this one.

28 hours in, and the temp of the ferment is 72 - a bit warm, but it's hotter than hell in PDX right now! The airlock is still bubbling away furiously.

1.016 on May 25 (day 9), a bit high, but coming along nicely. The airlock stopped bubbling on day 3, and I dropped the trub/cold break out of the bottom of the conical this evening. The hydro sample has a cloudiness that is appropriate for the style (and will clear up considerably when cold crashed before kegging). The hop aroma and flavor are crisp and refreshing. Definitely a bit darker than I expected.

FG 1.014 on 5/30. Racked to keg, 30psi applied, set aside to condition.

Something very clever (not to mention beery).
